The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), has arrested two men in connection with the possession of more than 8,000 pills of suspected ecstasy, as part of its intensified crackdown on illicit drugs.

The suspects, identified as 54-year-old Mam Babou Sowe of Kotu and 62-year-old Badou of Bakau, were apprehended in Bakau on October 1, 2025. According to DLEAG, the operation led to the seizure of 8,188 pills. Both men are currently in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation, DLEAG officers in Brikama Daruhairu arrested 26-year-old Omar Darboe with a block and 185 pieces of suspected hashish.

Meanwhile, on September 27, 2025, the agency’s Manjai field office arrested 35-year-old Suwaibou Njie of Bakoteh. He was allegedly found in possession of four parcels and four wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.

DLEAG said the arrests form part of its ongoing nationwide campaign to disrupt drug trafficking and safeguard communities.
