Senior Counsel Lamin J. Darboe has publicly criticized Mama Jabbi for allegedly making false statements in court and issuing insults against political figures. The comments reportedly targeted Ousainou Bojang during ongoing legal proceedings.

Speaking to journalists, Council Darboe indicated that efforts would be made to bring Ms. Jabbi before the courts for possible prosecution.

“Mama Jabbi came here telling lies, saying things that she knows are not true. That’s between her and God, but we will see if we can bring her and prosecute her too, because she’s lied against people with untrue claims,” he said.

He condemned her behavior as detrimental to the nation’s political climate.

“It’s a pity for the country that someone like Mama Jabbi is insulting people in politics and telling lies in court hearings,” he added.

Counsel Darboe also questioned how Ms. Jabbi had access to the State House, including interactions with the president and his family, calling the situation “a shame” and urging Gambians to be concerned.

“If that person can go into our state house to see the president and his family, that’s a shame, and Gambians should be very angry about it.”

He further advised the government, specifically the President, to remove her from any official engagements. He cited a prior incident in which Ms. Jabbi reportedly insulted Talib Bensouda.

In addition, Council Darboe called for reforms regarding the appointment of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). “I’m telling Gambians and the government that they should stop appointing foreigners as Director of Public Prosecution. The person should be a Gambian citizen,” he stated, warning that appointing a foreigner could compromise the accuracy and integrity of prosecutions.

“If you appoint a foreigner to be the Director of Public Prosecution, they can do things that aren’t in line with the truth.”
