Climate Organizations Forge Strategic Partnership to Bolster Environmental Action in The Gambia

Two leading Gambian environmental organizations, the Foundation for Climate and Environmental Justice (FoCEJ) and Green Up Gambia, convened on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, to formalize discussions aimed at a long-term partnership focused on sustainable climate action. The meeting took place at Green Up Gambia’s offices in Bakoteh.

According to FoCEJ, the engagement sought to strengthen institutional ties and identify collaborative initiatives, reflecting a shared commitment to tackling the country’s pressing environmental challenges.

During the session, Green Up Gambia’s Programme Officer, Ms. Arabiatou Jallow, highlighted the importance of incorporating legal frameworks into climate and environmental strategies. She noted that leveraging legal approaches is essential for effectively addressing environmental issues in The Gambia.

The meeting also offered an overview of Green Up Gambia’s ongoing projects, including mangrove restoration efforts at the Tanbi Wetlands. Mr. Ebrima A. Cham, the organization’s Administrative and Operations Manager, underscored the group’s openness to partnerships as a means to expand its environmental impact.

Both organizations affirmed their commitment to advancing meaningful, collaborative environmental action. The discussions concluded with defined next steps, signaling the start of a structured partnership aimed at promoting sustainability across the country.
