Brikama Area Council (BAC) Chairman Yankuba Darboe has sharply criticized the denial of bail to United Democratic Party (UDP)’s Deputy Administrative Secretary for Legal and Human Rights Matters, Borry S. Touray, describing the move as a “blatant abuse of police powers.”
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Darboe called on supporters to converge at Police Headquarters in Banjul on Friday to demand Touray’s release. “To deny Senior Counsel Borry Touray bail and detain him for the frivolous charges preferred against him is nothing more than a blatant abuse of police powers, which we must condemn and oppose at all costs!!!” Darboe wrote.
He further expressed strong opposition to perceived political intimidation, adding, “No to police brutality, and NO to Barrow’s third term!”
Touray, who has been charged with incitement to violence, remains in custody while his legal team awaits a bail hearing.
