Alleged Murder Suspect Remanded as Case Transferred to High Court

Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbye on Wednesday ordered the remand of Momodou Samba Bah, an alleged murderer, and directed that his case be transferred to the Special Criminal Court for further proceedings.
Bah appeared in court facing charges in connection with the death of Mbaye Dem, who, according to the prosecution, was fatally stabbed in the neck on March 3, 2026, in Manjai-Kunda. The charge, filed under Section 155 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025, alleges that Bah caused Dem’s death with malice aforethought.
Sergeant Baldeh, representing the Inspector General of Police, told the court that if convicted, Bah could face either life imprisonment or the death penalty. The prosecution requested that the case be moved to a higher court and that the accused be remanded pending trial.
In her ruling, Principal Magistrate Mbye determined that the lower court lacked jurisdiction over the matter. She therefore ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Special Criminal Court and directed that Bah be remanded at the State Central Prison (Mile 2) until the High Court hearing.
