Demba Sabally, the Minister of Agriculture, said on Thursday that he expects President Adama Barrow to secure overwhelming support in the December 2026 presidential election, citing recent opinion survey findings as evidence of growing public confidence in the ruling party.

Mr. Sabally was responding to the latest survey released by the Centre for Research and Policy Studies, known as CepRass, which assessed voter sentiment and perceptions of political leadership ahead of the next national elections.

“The CepRass survey results are not a surprise to us in the NPP,” Mr. Sabally said, referring to the president’s National People’s Party. He added that President Barrow had “fulfilled his social contract with the Gambian people” and would therefore receive broad electoral support.

At the same time, Mr. Sabally cautioned party supporters against complacency, urging them to remain disciplined and engaged in the months leading up to the vote.

“We urge our base not to be complacent. The NPP and our leader will stay focused and committed to improving the livelihoods of common citizens and not be distracted by the few so-called elites, most of whom are jobless and desperate,” he said.

The CepRass survey, which sampled respondents from across the country’s regions, examined public views on governance performance, leadership approval, and electoral prospects. According to the report, President Barrow enjoys strong levels of public support and is currently favored to win the 2026 presidential election.

CepRass has not released detailed margin-of-error figures alongside the summary findings, but said the survey was intended to provide an early snapshot of voter attitudes as political activity intensifies ahead of the polls.
