The Gambia Immigration Department said its border patrol unit in the North Bank Region intercepted 26 Guinean nationals in Fass Omar Saho as they allegedly attempted to embark on an irregular migration journey.
The group included 15 women and 11 men, according to the department. Six of those intercepted were minors.
The Immigration Department did not immediately provide details about when the group was intercepted, their intended destination, or the circumstances that led officers to identify them.
Following the interception, the migrants were transferred to the Migration Management Unit in Barra, where they are undergoing processing and further investigation under established procedures, the department said.
“Following the interception, the group was handed over to the Migration Management Unit in Barra for processing and further investigation in accordance with established procedures,” the department said in a statement.
The authorities described the operation as part of continuing efforts to curb irregular migration and strengthen border security.
The department also reiterated its call for migrants to use safe, orderly, and legal migration routes, warning against journeys through irregular channels that can expose travelers to significant risks.
