The National Assembly Member for Bundungka Kunda Constituency and senior APRC figure, Sulayman Jammeh, has said the party’s decision on whether to maintain its political alliance ahead of the 2026 elections will be guided by the outcome of its nationwide grassroots consultations.

Speaking in an interview on Senn FM’s Fanoketa program, Hon. Jammeh explained that the party leadership deliberately returned to its support base to gather views on the future of the alliance.

“We entered into an alliance in 2021, and now that we are in 2026—an election year—we felt it necessary to go back to our people,” he said. “The objective was to engage them on whether to continue the alliance, how it should be structured if maintained, and to assess the challenges encountered.”

He noted that the consultation process has now concluded, with feedback submitted from across the country. According to him, the party’s national executive will review and consolidate these views before taking a formal position.

“We have collected opinions from our supporters, and that process is complete. The national executive will now meet to analyze the feedback and determine the outcome,” he stated.

Hon. Jammeh added that the party will subsequently communicate its decision to the public through a press conference, outlining both its position and the rationale behind it, including expectations should the alliance continue.

Reflecting on the party’s earlier decision, he emphasized that the 2021 alliance was driven by a commitment to national development. “At the time, we made it clear that we wanted to contribute to national development, and being aligned with the government facilitates that process,” he said.

However, he stressed that elected officials must prioritize their constituents irrespective of political alignment. “I am a member of the APRC and a lawmaker, but that does not diminish my responsibility to represent my people effectively,” he said.

He cautioned against complacency, both in government and opposition. “If you are in the opposition and limit yourself to criticism without delivering for your people, you are failing them. Likewise, if you are in government and do not act in the interest of your constituents, you have also failed in your duty,” Jammeh remarked.

The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to APRC leader Fabakary Tombong Jatta, as well as the party’s national, regional, constituency, and ward executives for their efforts during the consultation process.

He concluded by urging political leaders to respect and value their supporters. “When we mobilize our supporters, they respond with dedication and enthusiasm. We must never take them for granted,” he said.
