The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, facilitated the voluntary return of 85 Malian nationals who had attempted to migrate irregularly through the country.
According to a press release from the department, the operation was conducted by GID’s Border Patrol Unit and Migration Management Unit at the Njambanarr Border Post.
The group included 65 adult males, 17 adult females, and 2 minors. They were intercepted on April 5 and 6, 2026, at Sinchu Sorri and Mandinaba, locations identified as part of a disrupted irregular migration route.
“The removal highlights the GID’s commitment to the implementation of its migration management and border security mandate, safeguarding the territorial integrity of The Gambia through lawful travel,” the department said.
