Kemo Bojang, spokesperson of the Unite Movement for Change (UMC), has called on party members and supporters to uphold discipline and respect in their political engagements, following the signing of a voluntary accord among opposition parties and movements in the country.

In a video message posted on his official page, Bojang said the recently signed pact is intended to promote harmony, cooperation, and discipline among parties currently engaged in negotiations.

According to him, the agreement is designed to ensure that while political actors engage in firm and robust discussions, they do so without hostility, incitement, or reckless conduct.

“It ensures that while we engage in strong and robust negotiation, we do so without hostility, incitement, or reckless conduct,” he stated.

Bojang noted that UMC supporters have consistently maintained a standard of restraint and maturity in political discourse. He said the movement’s members are known for avoiding attacks, insults, and inflammatory rhetoric, adding that the new accord reinforces those principles across all participating groups.

“Our politics have always reflected maturity and restraint. However, this accord reinforces that standard not just for us but for everybody involved,” he said.

He emphasized that the message extends beyond UMC supporters, describing it as a call to all Gambian political actors, supporters, and citizens to conduct themselves with responsibility, respect, and national consciousness.

Bojang further stressed that political actors may disagree strongly and negotiate firmly, but should not descend into hostility. He affirmed that the Unite Movement for Change will continue to lead with discipline, dignity, and purpose.

On Tuesday, six opposition parties and political movements in The Gambia announced that they had signed a voluntary “Harmony Pact” aimed at reducing hostility and mistrust among rival camps as they explore the possibility of forming a coalition ahead of the December 5 presidential election.
