MC Cham Jr., Business Councillor at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and a senior figure in the Unite Movement for Change (UMC), has declared that the party’s recent regional congress marked a turning point in the country’s political landscape.

According to Cham Jr, the event attracted an unprecedented turnout, which he described as evidence of growing public support for the party’s agenda.

“The overwhelming success of our recent regional congress has changed the political atmosphere in our country. What took place was more than a gathering; it was a clear indication that something new is taking shape,” he said.

Cham Jr. noted that the scale of participation and enthusiasm demonstrated at the congress has reverberated across the political spectrum, drawing attention from established parties. He referenced remarks by UMC leader Bensouda, who expressed confidence that the party would become the country’s largest opposition force by October.

“Such a statement, delivered in the context of such remarkable turnout and enthusiasm, could not be ignored,” Cham Jr. stated.

The party’s growing influence is seen as a response to a deep and growing call for renewal, integrity, and leadership that looks to the future.

He attributed the party’s growing momentum to what he described as a widespread demand for renewal, integrity, and forward-looking leadership. According to him, UMC’s emphasis on accountability and responsible governance is resonating with citizens from diverse backgrounds.

“Citizens from all walks of life are responding to a vision that prioritizes accountability, renewal, and responsible leadership,” Cham Jr. noted.

Cham Jr. added that increased scrutiny and political pressure are natural consequences of the party’s rising profile.

“The pressure we are seeing comes as no surprise. When real momentum begins to grow, those who have long been comfortable feel the shift. When citizens gather around new ideas and honest leadership, the old guard becomes unsettled. Influence brings attention, and progress often meets resistance.”
The UMC stalwart believes that the national mood is evolving, and the signs of change are clear to all who are willing to observe them.

He concluded that the national mood is shifting and that UMC’s influence is poised to expand further.
