The wrongful termination lawsuit filed by journalist and activist Kemeseng Kexx Sanneh against Alport Banjul Limited was postponed on Thursday after the presiding judge failed to appear in court.

The hearing, scheduled to take place at the High Court, could not proceed because the judge was reported to be outside the country, court officials said.

Mr. Sanneh, who was present and prepared to open his case against his former employer, was informed by the court clerk that the matter would be adjourned. The clerk rescheduled the hearing for March 12, when the judge is expected to return and proceedings on the merits of the case are set to begin.

The lawsuit stems from Mr. Sanneh’s abrupt dismissal in July 2025. He alleges that his employment was terminated via WhatsApp in retaliation for his participation in a peaceful protest organized by the civic group Gambians Against Looted Assets.

In court filings, Mr. Sanneh argues that his involvement in anti-corruption activism was undertaken in a personal capacity and did not violate the terms of his employment contract. He is seeking damages for breach of contract, citing lost income and professional opportunities, including an annual contract valued at 150,000 dalasis, as well as other partnerships he says he declined in order to honor his commitment to Alport.
