The spokesperson of the Unite Movement for Change (UNITE), Kemo Bojang, has said the formation of the movement was intended to offer Gambians an alternative to what he described as the country’s existing political status quo.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Bojang said the creation of UNITE was aimed at presenting citizens with a better political option and a new approach to governance.

“The formation of UNITE was to offer an alternative to the already established status quo. It is to offer Gambians something better than what is already being offered,” he stated.

Bojang expressed satisfaction that Gambians from different political backgrounds are beginning to find the movement appealing, noting that its message is resonating with citizens seeking a new direction for leadership and national development.

According to him, critics who question the rationale behind the formation of the movement are contradicting themselves.

“To those who say they do not see the rationale in this are contradictory in their own thought. Why we who have formed this force to be reckoned with took this path in the first place,” he said.

Bojang further explained that the foundation of UNITE is rooted in the belief that The Gambia deserves more than its current political arrangements.

“It was formed to break away from the narrow thinking that politics must remain confined within old lines and old loyalties,” he added.

He emphasized that the movement’s objective is to win elections and that it remains open to all Gambians who believe the country can achieve better governance and development.

“When UNITE set out, we set out to win an election in a first-past-the-post system where every vote counts and every citizen’s voice matters. That being the case, UNITE will chase every Gambian we believe will add value to our call,” he said.

Bojang also stressed that the movement does not discriminate based on background, political history, or experience.

“We do not discriminate, nor do we segregate. Our doors are open to Gambians of all backgrounds, all experiences, and all political histories who are ready to work for something greater than themselves,” he noted.

He concluded that UNITE aims to serve as a platform for Gambians seeking improved governance, greater opportunities, effective leadership, and a better future for the next generation.

“As long as there are Gambians who share that belief, UNITE will continue to grow as a movement that welcomes all who are ready to contribute to that vision,” he said.
