UNITE Coordinator Says Barrow Is “Losing Grip” of the Country, Not Just KMC

By Makutu Manneh
Habib Ceesay, National Coordinator of the UNITE Party, has said President Adama Barrow is losing his grip on the country, not only on the Kanifing Municipality.
Speaking on Kerr Fatou’s Politic Kachaa show, Mr. Ceesay said presidential addresses are expected to give citizens hope and inspiration, but that Mr. Barrow’s speeches leave people angry and afraid.
“The cost of living is on the rise in The Gambia, and living conditions continue to deteriorate,” he said.
He pointed to the situation in Banjul, where he said top government officials can be seen standing on highways looking for lifts. He described this as a sign of hardship that is contributing to rising corruption in the country.
Mr Ceesay also accused the central government of suppressing the Kanifing Municipal Council’s (KMC) development agenda because it fears Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda would take credit for any progress. He said the government was forgetting that the same people who voted for the president also voted for the mayor.
