The Gambia Immigration Department has recovered three unidentified bodies at the Jinack Crossing Point in what is believed to be the aftermath of a migrant boat accident.
The department’s Border Patrol Unit, operating in the North Bank Region, discovered the bodies during a routine night patrol conducted in collaboration with the Village Development Committee of Jinack Kajata. The victims comprise two males and one female.
Authorities believe the three were passengers aboard a small taxi boat that capsized offshore while attempting to rendezvous with a larger migrant vessel at sea. The bodies were subsequently handed over to Essau Police Station for investigation and further action.
In a press release, the GID expressed concern over the continuing loss of life associated with irregular migration and called on communities to support national efforts to protect lives and discourage clandestine migration.
