The National People’s Party (NPP) on Saturday, 10 January 2026, recorded decisive victories in the Bantanjang Ward by-election in Foni and the Kaiaf Ward by-election in Kiang, outcomes the party has described as a strong endorsement of President Adama Barrow’s leadership and development agenda.
In a statement issued by its Media and Communication team, the NPP said the results reflect public confidence in the party’s record and vision for national development.
“The people of these two wards have spoken with one voice, affirming that progress, stability, and results-driven leadership remain their top priorities,” the statement said.
The party highlighted the Bantanjang Ward victory as particularly significant, noting Foni’s reputation as a historically difficult political terrain for the NPP and allied parties. According to the statement, the outcome represents a major political breakthrough.
“This win is not accidental; it is a direct reflection of the renewed confidence and trust the people of Foni have placed in President Adama Barrow, his leadership style, and his commitment to inclusive development that leaves no region behind,” the party emphasized.
The NPP also credited its success to the efforts of campaign teams and grassroots supporters in both Foni and Kiang.
“Your hard work on the ground has once again proven that when the NPP engages the people with sincerity, humility, and purpose, victory is inevitable,” the statement said.
The party said the by-election outcomes underscore growing national support for President Barrow’s vision of a prosperous, peaceful, and united Gambia and reaffirmed its confidence heading into future electoral contests.
“Together, these two victories send a clear warning to the opposition parties: the NPP is not only growing stronger but has firmly positioned itself as the party the people of this country trust,” the statement concludes.
