The leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) has thanked supporters for their efforts in the Bantanjang Ward by-election, acknowledging defeat while calling for greater unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2026 presidential race.

In a statement released on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, Kebba Madi Bojang, the NDP leader, praised supporters for what he described as their discipline and resilience throughout the campaign, despite the party’s endorsed candidate failing to secure victory.

Mr. Bojang attributed the election outcome to divine will, invoking a common Islamic expression to underscore his acceptance of the result. Victory and defeat, he said, ultimately rest beyond human control and should be met with humility.

“Victory and defeat are both from Him, and He alone, in His infinite wisdom, decrees outcomes beyond human comprehension”, Man proposes, but Allah disposes,” the statement reads.

He congratulated the National People’s Party candidate on winning the Bantanjang by-election and used the moment to renew his appeal for opposition collaboration. Unity among opposition parties, he said, was essential rather than optional, arguing that collective action was the only effective path forward.

“The unity of the opposition is not optional, it is imperative,” he said, using the metaphor “No single broomstick can sweep the courtyard clean, but when bound together, they become unstoppable.”

Looking ahead to the 2026 presidential election, Mr. Bojang called on what he described as progressive forces to set aside differences and work together in pursuit of national renewal and people-centered leadership.

Despite the loss, he said, the NDP remained resolute, describing the party as strengthened by the experience and energized for future political contests.

“A united opposition is the surest pathway to a new dawn and a vibrant, people-centered leadership for our beloved nation,” he said. “We emerge from this contest not weakened, but wiser, not discouraged, but energized.”
