The leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Mama Kandeh, on Sunday, March 22, 2026, addressed supporters on the findings of a recent CepRass survey and the prospects of a political coalition ahead of future elections.

Speaking publicly for the first time on the matter during a gathering in Kiti Village, where he joined supporters for congregational prayers, Kandeh shared his reaction to the survey results and what he described as efforts to undermine his party.

He commended his administrative secretary, Ebrima Nyang, for actively defending the party across media platforms.

Referring to the survey, Kandeh questioned its credibility, arguing that the reported figures underestimated the GDC’s support base. He further alleged that certain actors were deliberately seeking to weaken the party’s standing, describing the reported low percentages as “misleading” and politically motivated.

Kandeh cautioned against dismissing the GDC’s influence, using a metaphor to underscore his point that underestimating the party would not diminish its impact.

He also expressed concern over reactions circulating on social media, recounting a call he received from abroad referencing the survey results, which claimed the GDC had minimal national support.

Despite these claims, Kandeh urged party members to remain resolute and intensify their outreach efforts. He called on supporters to actively engage with the public and counter narratives they believe misrepresent the party’s strength.

Addressing speculation about a possible coalition, Kandeh acknowledged ongoing discussions within the political landscape. He maintained that a coalition remains likely, despite skepticism in some quarters.

According to Kandeh, the GDC remains well-positioned ahead of the next presidential election, asserting that the party’s achievements and grassroots presence cannot be overlooked.

He reiterated his confidence that a coalition arrangement would materialize in due course, emphasizing that the party is not under pressure and will proceed strategically.

Concluding his remarks, Kandeh reaffirmed the GDC’s commitment to national development, stating that the party’s agenda is rooted in service and progress for the Gambian people.
