Lamin Bojang, a member of the ruling National People’s Party (N.P.P.), said the party is seeking to secure as much as 75 percent of the vote in the upcoming election, setting a target that goes well beyond a simple majority.

Mr. Bojang said the party is confident of winning more than 50 percent of the vote but is pushing for a higher margin at the direction of its leader and the country’s president.

“I will say 60 to 70 percent we are going to win; we are going to win with the majority above 50 percent,” he said. “At N.P.P., our party leader gave us a ticket of 75 percent of voters. That is why we are putting complacency aside. We are working day and night to ensure we reach that threshold.”

He described the party as intensifying its campaign efforts nationwide, emphasizing door-to-door outreach and voter mobilization.

“There is no denying that we are going to win this election,” Mr. Bojang said. “We are not going to be complacent; we are going to be knocking at every door to ensure we collect every single vote available in this country because we are the front-runners.”

Mr. Bojang attributed the party’s confidence to what he characterized as the government’s record in office, pointing to developments in areas such as infrastructure, the rule of law, education, agriculture, and international relations.

He praised the president as a “workaholic” and said his leadership had exceeded public expectations since taking office in 2017.

“Today, 10 years down the line or 9 years down the line, he has surpassed the expectation of every Gambian in terms of development, in terms of regard for the rule of law, in terms of respect for humanity, in terms of building our image in the international arena, in terms of education, in all those sectors, in agriculture,” he said.

Mr. Bojang added that while crossing the 50 percent threshold would be sufficient for victory, the party views it as only a starting point.

“The 50 percent is just the basis—a stepping stone,” he said. “We are moving on to challenge ourselves to reach the 75 percent because that is the target given to us by our party leader.”
