The announcement was made by IEC Chairman Joseph Colley during the launch of the 2026–2027 election calendar held at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Center in Bijilo.
According to the schedule, National Assembly elections will follow on April 10, 2027, while Councillor elections are slated for May 22, 2027, and Mayoral and Chairperson elections will take place on June 26, 2027. The IEC also revealed that a supplementary voter registration exercise will run from April 1 to May 14, 2026, to allow eligible citizens to update or confirm their voter information.
Chairman Colley reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and strict adherence to electoral laws, urging political parties and independent candidates to fully comply with registration and campaign regulations.
Established under Section 43 of The Gambia’s Constitution, the IEC is mandated to conduct and supervise all public elections and referenda in the country. The commission stated that the carefully determined election dates are part of its broader effort to uphold credibility, transparency, and integrity in the nation’s democratic process.
