The Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez, officially inaugurated the Civil Service University (CSU) on Monday, March 30, 2026, at its main campus in Kanifing.

The launch ceremony brought together senior government officials, academic leaders, civil service representatives, development partners, and invited guests. Highlights of the event included the unveiling of the CSU logo, symbolic presentations, and speeches underscoring the university’s commitment to excellence, professionalism, and good governance.

CSU’s establishment forms part of a wider reform initiative approved by the National Assembly in July 2024, aimed at strengthening key institutions to advance national development.

Addressing attendees, Professor Gomez described the launch as a “defining milestone” in The Gambia’s higher education transformation. He commended the CSU Governing Council and management for swiftly establishing governance frameworks, developing academic programs, and solidifying the university’s institutional identity.

He emphasized that CSU will serve as a strategic hub for cultivating professional, ethical, and efficient public servants capable of driving sustainable development. The minister noted that the initiative aligns with President Barrow’s national development agenda, which prioritizes education, skills development, and institutional capacity building.

Professor Gomez encouraged all stakeholders to continue supporting efforts to expand higher education access, enhance quality assurance, and foster research and innovation. He further highlighted that CSU is envisioned as a centre of excellence in leadership development, public administration, management training, and specialised capacity building for public sector professionals.

Concluding his remarks, he said the unveiling of the CSU logo symbolizes more than an institutional identity—it represents a renewed commitment to building a resilient, effective, and forward-looking public service for national development.
