The Association of Licensed Forex Bureaux (ALFOB) on Monday condemned the fatal stabbing of Isatou Fatty, an employee of Heewal Forex Bureau, whose death has stirred alarm across Gambia’s foreign-exchange sector.
In a statement, the association said it was “shocked and saddened” by the killing, extending condolences to Ms. Fatty’s family, friends, and colleagues. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” the group wrote.
The attack, which occurred in Brusubi, has heightened concerns about the safety of forex bureau workers after a similar incident was reported recently at H M Forex Bureau in the Westfield area. ALFOB said the repeated targeting of bureau employees underscores the need for urgent, coordinated action.
“This incident follows a similar occurrence reported some time ago in the Westfield area (H M Forex Bureau), underscoring the urgent need for collective action to protect lives and ensure safety,” ALFOB stated.
The association pledged to collaborate with law enforcement agencies and industry stakeholders to strengthen security protocols. It also urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators.
“We call on the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of law enforcement efforts as investigations continue,” the statement added.
“Violence has no place in our society,” the statement said, adding a call for unity as authorities continue their inquiries. “May the soul of the departed rest in peace.”
