President Adama Barrow is expected to launch more than 300 kilometers of new road projects across The Gambia during a nationwide development tour scheduled for Aug. 8 to 14, according to the Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services.
Announcing the itinerary, the minister said the president will begin the weeklong tour in the North Bank Region, where he is set to lay foundation stones for several major road projects and inaugurate completed road networks before continuing to other regions of the country.
The North Bank projects include new roads in Barra, Fass, Bakalarr, Jurunku, Kerr Sambacalla, and Kerr Omar, among other communities. President Barrow is also expected to inaugurate completed roads, including the Banni Salikeni and Ngayen Sanjal roads.
“The President is starting in the North Bank, where he will lay foundation stones for over 300 kilometers of new roads in Barra, in Fass, in Bakalarr, in Jurunku, in Kerr Sambacalla, and in Kerr Omar. Then in the North Bank again, he will do Daru Rilwan, Tangko Jola, and he will inaugurate Banni Salikenni,” he said.
The tour will then move to the Central River Region, where President Barrow is scheduled to inspect ongoing road construction projects, inaugurate the 20-kilometer Reneru-Karantaba road, hand over the newly completed governor’s residence and office in Basse, and launch additional road works in Karawol.
The president will also travel to the Lower River Region to inspect infrastructure projects before concluding the tour in the West Coast Region.
On the final day, President Barrow is expected to lay foundation stones for several roads in and around Brikama, including the Jida Baba Njie–Brikama Road, New Town Brikama Road, Wajuwara Box Bar Road, CDC Lamin Road, Hamat Bah Junction, Sukuta Market Road, and Tanji Road.
The minister described the Brikama projects as particularly significant, noting that residents have long awaited improvements to several of the roads.
President Barrow is expected to conclude the nationwide development tour on Aug. 14.
