President Adama Barrow on Tuesday handed over 389 pieces of farm equipment to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security, part of a broader effort to strengthen agricultural productivity and improve food security nationwide.

The equipment was formally received by the agriculture minister, Demba Sabally, during a ceremony in Brikamaba, as the president continued a nationwide tour linked to the planned construction of 204.7 kilometers of feeder roads.

According to the ministry, the initiative is financed by the World Bank and is intended to expand access to modern farming tools, increase yields, and support smallholder farmers.

The equipment package includes 56 power tillers, 20 mini rice combine harvesters, 60 maize and coarse-grain milling machines, 10 manual drum seeders, 25 garden tillers, seven rice steaming kits, five bush cutters, 100 rice threshers, 10 four-row tractor-drawn seed drills, 12 maize shellers, 60 rice milling machines, 19 tricycles, and five rotary weeders.

In a statement, the ministry described the handover as “another step forward in modernizing agriculture and supporting hardworking farmers across the nation,” underscoring the government’s focus on mechanization as a cornerstone of rural development.
