Mahmud Jatta, the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP) National Youth Wing and Youth Coordinator for the Kololi/Kotu Ward, has announced his resignation from both positions with immediate effect.
In a statement, Jatta clarified that his decision was not an act of disloyalty to the party, but a personal choice to channel his energy toward contributing to national development through other avenues.
“Serving under the leadership of His Excellency Ousainou ANM Darboe, former Vice President of The Gambia, has been a privilege and an honor,” he said. “Through this experience, I have learned the true meaning of dedication, sacrifice, and loyalty to both party and nation.”
Jatta described his resignation as a difficult decision, noting that he and his family have always been staunch supporters of the UDP leadership. “It was a bitter pill to swallow,” he admitted.
He explained that the decision came after a period of deep reflection on his political journey, his commitment to the youth, and the direction he wishes to take in continuing his service to the Gambian people.
Expressing gratitude to the UDP for the trust and opportunities it provided, Jatta said the party offered him a valuable platform to serve, learn, and grow within The Gambia’s political landscape.
He concluded by wishing the UDP continued unity, strength, and success in advancing justice, democracy, and progress for the nation.
