The Gambia Police Force has officially confirmed a tragic road traffic accident involving a Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC) bus near Kalagi. The incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals and multiple injuries, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Modou Musa Sissawo.
In a statement, ASP Sissawo reported that the accident occurred when the GTSC bus, registered as KM 4845 K and traveling from Bwiam towards Soma, lost control upon reaching the Kalagi area. The vehicle veered off the road, leading to a serious collision.
“Police in Kalagi have responded to a fatal road traffic accident involving a GTSU bus, registration number KM 4845 K, travelling from Bwiam towards Soma. Preliminary investigations indicate that upon reaching Kalagi, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road. Several passengers were injured and rushed to the Kalagi Health Centre for treatment,” the statement reads.
The two confirmed fatalities are identified as Yahya Mballow, aged 29, from Wellingara Kejew, and an unidentified female.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and urge all motorists to drive with caution, observe speed limits, and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to prevent similar incidents.
