Trust Bank on Tuesday donated medical supplies, essential equipment, and office materials valued at more than D200,000 to the maternity ward of Kanifing General Hospital, reinforcing the bank’s longstanding contribution to strengthening healthcare delivery in The Gambia.
The consignment included clinical consumables, computers, office furniture, electronic devices, chairs, and storage units—all aimed at improving both patient care and administrative efficiency at one of the country’s busiest maternal and child health facilities. Hospital officials said the support will help ease the daily pressures of a ward that caters to thousands of women and newborns annually.
Delivering remarks on behalf of Managing Director Alex Gomez, the bank’s Head of Marketing and Business Development said the gesture underscores Trust Bank’s commitment to advancing maternal health outcomes nationwide. He described Kanifing General Hospital as “a vital institution whose dedication to patient care and community service remains exemplary,” noting that the bank is proud to continue its support.
Gomez stressed that maternal mortality remains a pressing global challenge, particularly in developing countries, and reaffirmed that strengthening the health sector is a core component of Trust Bank’s corporate social responsibility agenda.
“We are all aware that maternal mortality remains a pressing concern in many parts of the world, including here in The Gambia. Access to quality maternal healthcare is not just a necessity; it is a right. Every woman deserves the chance to give birth in a safe environment, with skilled care and the proper medical resources at hand. By working together, we can ensure that fewer women and babies lose their lives due to preventable complications,” he said.
He added that the bank’s approach to corporate giving prioritizes targeted, needs-based support to ensure that its interventions yield meaningful, measurable impact on service delivery.
“Our approach is simple: we do not just want to offer a donation, but we want to ensure that our support is both targeted and impactful. By responding to your specific requests, we hope to provide the resources that will make a real difference in your daily operations and improve patient outcomes,” he noted.
Receiving the donation, Basiru Drammeh, Chief Executive Officer of Kanifing General Hospital, expressed gratitude and commended Trust Bank for what he described as a consistent and dependable partnership. He assured the bank that the donated items would be put to effective use to enhance the quality of care for mothers and newborns.
“Trust Bank began including Canopy General School in their annual Corporate Social Responsibility Program in 2022. From that initial gesture, their commitment has been so remarkable. For three solid years, Trust Bank has been consistently and constantly extending its support to our beloved hospital,” he said.
