After losing the Secretary General and Party Leader position at People’s Progressive Party’s Saturday congress in Brikamaba, Fatoumatta Touma Njie has rejected the election results and demanded fresh elections be held for the party.

“I am of the conviction that what the PPP needs is a transitional leader. A transitional leader that can tackle challenges with a defined purpose and direction to lead a major transformation and restructuring. To this effect, we the undersigned reject the constituted Executive and demand for fresh elections to be held,” she said during a press conference earlier today.

Touma Njie added that they have established an alternative executive pending proper and fair election.

Njie is the National Assembly Member for Banjul South under PPP ticket. She contested the position of Secretary General and Party Leader at the congress but she lost to her opponent Kebba E. Jallow. According to the congress record, she got 2 votes, while Kebba E. Jallow got 92 votes.
