Pres. Barrow appoints former UN worker as women affairs minister

The president of the Gambia, Adama Barrow, has appointed Fatou Sanyang Kinteh as Minister for Women Affairs, Children, and Social Welfare with effect from 1st March, office of the president stated on their official Facebook.

Sanyang has a distinguished track record in advocating for the rights of women and children in The Gambia and beyond.

She is a veteran of the Women’s Bureau, and also worked with the United Nations for several years.

Sanyang is the first minister in the ministry which was created this year.

Previously, country’s vice president oversees the Ministry of Women Affairs while Health Ministry oversees social welfare, a Government institution that is responsible for affairs of children.
