Police Secure Convictions for 18 Individuals

The Anti-Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force has successfully prosecuted a series of cases before Magistrate T. Touray at the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court, leading to the conviction of 18 individuals on various charges.

Seven youths from Kololi Taban were found guilty of multiple offenses, including assault, affray, and common nuisance. The court handed down the following sentences:

  • Muhammad Gassama received a three-year prison term for assaulting a police officer and was further ordered to pay D25,800 in compensation to the officer. In default of payment, he will serve an additional one-year sentence.
  • Alieu Leigh, Modou Sinyang, and Dodou Nyang were each sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for affray.
  • All seven accused were sentenced to one year’s mandatory imprisonment for common nuisance, along with a D20,000 fine payable to the state, or an additional year in default.

In a separate matter, 11 individuals were convicted of common nuisance. Each was fined D10,000, with a default sentence of six months’ imprisonment. One of the accused pleaded not guilty, and their case has been adjourned to October 9, 2025, for further proceedings.


Additionally, Musa Badjan was convicted of escaping from lawful custody. He was fined D3,000 or, in default, sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
