Police Investigating Conduct Of Two Officers

The Gambia Police Force has confirmed to Kerr Fatou that they have started an investigation into the conduct of 2 PIU officers seen in a viral video rejoicing over the use of tear-gas on the UDP supporters.

“They are not arrested because that’s not the procedure. But the police Management is aware of the video. Police have commenced an investigation into their conduct through the Human Rights and Professional Standards Unit. They will investigate and make recommendations to management for appropriate actions to be taken,” ASP Lamin Njie,  the Police spokesperson told Kerr Fatou in a phone interview.

In a viral video, two Police Officers were seen in a jubilant mood over the use of tear gas on the supporters of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP). One of the officers said they want more of the scene. The video has sparked a wide public condemnation, with many calling it a professional ‘misconduct’.
