The political arena and online platforms are buzzing with reactions following Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda’s decision to withdraw from the United Democratic Party (UDP) flagbearer race on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
His announcement has drawn mixed responses across the country. While some supporters expressed disappointment, others welcomed his move as a step toward maintaining party unity.
Bensouda explained that his decision came after a private discussion with UDP leader Ousainou Darboe, who reaffirmed his intention to remain the party’s presidential candidate in the 2026 elections. However, speculation continues to swirl, with many suggesting that the mayor’s withdrawal was influenced by internal party tensions, including personal attacks and tribal undertones from within the UDP ranks.
The development has also sparked interest from rival political parties. Senior figures in the National People’s Party (NPP) have reportedly reached out to Bensouda, inviting him to join their camp.
With uncertainty surrounding his next steps, political observers and citizens alike are asking whether Bensouda will remain in the UDP, align with another party, or even launch his own political movement ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
For now, the future of Mayor Bensouda’s political career remains a subject of speculation—one that the nation watches closely.
