The Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah today (Monday) started a five-day nationwide tour of ongoing projects.
Tour would give him the opportunity to visit the construction of DK Jawara mausoleum , Banjul rehabilitation project, and the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA).
In Banjul, Hon. Sillah called on the Banjul City Council to collaborate with the Ministry Works to make the city clean and nice; and urged the contractor to expedite the works to complete on time
Speaking to the Works Minister at the DK Jawara Mausoleum, Kebba Omar Jarjursey, project supervisor informed that the worth of the Mausoleum is D25 million.
He added that the duration should be 13 months; but some investigations extended the project to September 2022.
“The beauty of the DK Jawara Mausoleum is that the project is fully run by Gambian youth from the starting up to this point in time,” the project supervisor said.
Similarly, the supervisor for the Banjul road rehabilitation project, Karamo Jaiteh said almost 90%of the project is done.
“The rehabilitation project started with the launchin 2018, with 27 roads in Banjul and then they added 7 roads, which made it 34 in total,” he said.
Ousman Jobarteh, Managing Director, Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) said his institution is honoured by the Minister’s visit because it would give him first-hand information on the various projects at the GPA.
Reacting to the visit, Maimuna Suwareh, a resident in Banjul thanked the government for the work being done in Banjul.
“If you know Banjul before and Banjul now, you will see the differences,” she expressed.
She urged attitudinal change among Gambians, if they really need development in the country.
The visit is meant to have first-hand information on the ongoing projects across the country under the purview of his Ministry; as well as be updated on the achievements and challenges for solutions as the rains approach.
Officers of the National Roads Authority, contractors, consultants, and other relevant stakeholders accompanied Minister Sillah.
