Rohey Malick Lowe, the mayor of Banjul and president of REFELA Africa, on Sunday inaugurated the Secka Adam Water Project in Dibba Kunda, a community in the North Bank Region, marking a new effort to expand access to clean and reliable water in rural areas.

The project, financed by Yagou Malick Lowe Ceesay, is part of the Water for Women initiative, a program focused on improving access to basic services while supporting women’s empowerment and local economic development.

In remarks shared publicly after the ceremony, Mayor Lowe described the water project as a step toward easing daily hardships faced by women and girls, who often bear the burden of collecting water. She said improved access would contribute to better health outcomes, greater dignity for households, and increased opportunities for education and economic activity.

Local residents and community leaders attended the inauguration, which highlighted collaboration between donors, local authorities, and residents in addressing longstanding infrastructure gaps. Mayor Lowe thanked community members and organizers for their role in bringing the project to completion, emphasizing that its success depended on collective effort rather than individual leadership.

The Secka Adam Water Project adds to a series of development initiatives supported by REFELA Africa and the Banjul City Council, which have focused on water access, sanitation, and community-based services as part of broader efforts to improve living conditions across The Gambia.
