Mayor Lowe Commiserates with flood victims

The Mayor of Banjul, Mrs. Rohey Malick Lowe released the following statement on the recent flooding that occurred in the city. In the statement, she called on the government to urge the contractor of the Banjul roads project to collaborate with her city council for a speedy finalization to the project to stop this perenial problem. Here is the statement in it’s entirety.

“It is with deep regret that the Mayor of Banjul City Council learns of the flooding situation in the City of Banjul on the night of Saturday the 30/07/2022 breaking Sunday the 31/07/2022. The Mayor of the City Council together with Councilors and staff are in solidarity with the victims of the flood.

We understand there is loss of property and other things. We are calling on the Government to urge the contractor to collaborate with Banjul City Council to speedy up the finalization of the Banjul Project in order to remedy the yearly accuracies of flooding in the City. This is the first time Banjul is experiencing such calamities. The harm this flooding is causing to the citizens of the City cannot be overemphasized therefore urgent attention is needed to ensure the citizens do not experience such in the future.

The Mayor is also calling on the National Disaster Management agency (NDMA) to make a swift respond to the situation of the victims.”
