Kanifing Municipal Council Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda has pledged that the United Democratic Party (UDP) will deliver justice to Gambians if it wins the 2026 elections.
Speaking to a yellow-clad audience at the UDP Seattle Diaspora Convention in the United States, Mayor Bensouda lamented the lack of justice in The Gambia, particularly for victims of former President Yahya Jammeh’s regime.
“Justice remains one of UDP’s core principles, and it will be delivered in 2026,” Bensouda assured the crowd.
He described worsening economic conditions in the country, saying, “People are getting poorer and poorer every day in the Gambia.” He noted the high cost of living, pointing to the rising prices of cement and bread and the depreciation of the Dalasi as examples of the economic hardship faced by ordinary citizens.
“It is getting more and more extremely difficult as Gambians try to survive on a daily basis,” he said.
Bensouda also underscored the critical role of the diaspora, who, he said, contribute about $800 million annually to the Gambian economy. However, he criticized the government for failing to acknowledge their efforts.
“But the United Democratic Party is always grateful and thankful to our diaspora,” he added.
