Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and leader of the newly established Unite Movement for Change, has described Gambian politics as “dirty and low,” asserting that such practices are incompatible with a country striving for progress.

In an audio message shared with his supporters, Mayor Bensouda criticized the current political environment, which he said is dominated by personal attacks and insults.

“Today Gambian politics is all about insults and saying bad things about people. The politics of a country that wants to advance should not be like that,” he remarked.

The mayor attributed the slow progress in Gambian politics and governance to the prevalence of personality-driven politics. He urged citizens and political actors alike to refrain from framing or insulting others. “Do not frame or insult others,” he said.

Bensouda called for a new political culture rooted in ideas, programs, and policies, which he believes are the true drivers of national development.

“Let us compete on ideas, programs, and policies,” he urged. “Those who insult, forgive them and leave them to Allah—they simply do not know any better.”
