The Mayoress of the capital city of The Gambia, and President of African Capital Cities Sustainability Forum, Rohey Malick-Lowe, has met with the Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams on Friday, July 15 at the NY City Hall to discuss ways to boost bilateral relations between the two cities and Africa at large.
“I met with my counterpart and brother, Mayor Eric Adams, to discuss how to strengthen relationships between Banjul and New York City,” Mayoress Lowe said in an exclusive interview with New York Parrot and Parkchester Times correspondents after the close-door meeting.
“We discussed the importance of cities working together to learn and overcome challenges. The discussion also focused on women’s leadership including in politics and on the African continent,” she added.
The Mayoress who also serves as the President of Local Government Elected Women of Africa, popularly called REFELA, disclosed that she was pleased to know that Mayor Adams prioritizes women empowerment in his administration.
“Mayor Adams, who has a passion in empowering women, has shown commitment to support African female Mayors, through REFELA, in order to close the parity gaps,” she said. “Additionally, his willingness to work with me to strengthen bilateral relations between Banjul and New York City is worthy of commendation.”
“I’ll be ungrateful if I fail to commend Mayor Adams for swiftly and unalluring response to the fire incident in the Bronx that claimed numerous lives, especially Gambians. This shows that he’s indeed a wonderful leader to emulate,” she concluded.
