Majanko Samusa, a former National Assembly member and senior figure in the National Convention Party (NCP), has reaffirmed his support for President Adama Barrow’s third-term bid, even while admitting he personally prefers that the president step down after serving ten years in office.

In an exclusive interview with Kerr Fatou, Samusa argued that President Barrow’s credibility would be strengthened if he chose not to seek another term.“I do not want him to go for a third term. If you are into something with someone, tell the person the truth. I clear my position, but when he stands, I will follow him because I don’t see cause to abandon him,” Samusa said.

When challenged over the apparent contradiction in his stance, Samusa dismissed the criticism, insisting that his view is consistent with his principles. “What is wrong with that? That is my point of view,” he remarked.

This is not the first time Samusa’s position has attracted attention. He previously told Kerr Fatou that he would back President Barrow if he sought re-election. However, shortly afterwards, an audio recording surfaced in which Samusa was heard expressing his opposition to a third term for the president.

Responding to the leaked tape, Samusa clarified that the remarks were made one to two months earlier during a meeting with a group of former National Assembly members who support Barrow. He claimed the recording was made by Musa Suso, whom he accused of leaking it for reasons unknown.
