Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) and coordinator of the National People’s Party (NPP) Alliance Secretariat, has reaffirmed the coalition’s unwavering commitment to securing a third-term victory for President Adama Barrow in the 2026 presidential election.
Speaking at a press briefing on behalf of the coalition, Fatty expressed confidence that the NPP-led alliance will retain power: “We have no doubt about that,” he said.
The NPP Grand Alliance comprises the National People’s Party (NPP), Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), National Reconciliation Party (NRP), Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), Citizens’ Alliance (CA), Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP), Alliance for National Re-orientation and Development (ANRD), and National Convention Party (NCP).
“We are going to conduct a very effective and issue-oriented campaign throughout the whole country,” Fatty stated. “What is important is for Gambians to fully appreciate and to understand that the alliance behind President Barrow remains very solid, strong, committed, and united on the sole objective of continuity of the NPP-led administration.”
Praising the president’s leadership, Fatty described Barrow as “a builder—not only of concrete and steel, but of human flesh and blood, the soul, and the future of this nation—investing in human resources and human capital development of this nation.”
Fatty stated that the alliance is firmly convinced that the progress achieved in the country over the past decade must be consolidated. He stressed that not a single party is leaving the coalition, citing their continued confidence in President Barrow’s leadership, and affirmed, “And that 2026 is a victory for us again.”
Highlighting the government’s track record, Fatty added that Gambians have no alternative but to endorse another term for President Barrow.
He also extended an invitation to new political parties, groups, and movements to join the alliance in advancing national development.
Acknowledging the reality of governance, the GMC leader noted that no nation achieves all its goals and that there remain areas requiring attention, reform, and improvement—issues of concern for many Gambians.
Nonetheless, Fatty underscored that, in substance, the NPP-led government has delivered results and established a strong foundation for democracy, achieving significant progress in sectors such as education, health, energy, and beyond.
