Justice Sidi K. Jobarteh of the High Court of the Gambia has adjourned Kumba Sinyan’s murder trial due to the late arrival of the Fourth Prosecution Witness in Court.

When the case was called for a hearing, the State Counsel informed the court that prosecution witness 4 (PW4)is not present in the courtroom.

Justice Jobarteh then gave the State Counsel a few minutes to call the witness. The State Counsel said the witness is not picking up his calls and then applied for the adjournment of the case. The defence Counsel did not object to the application for adjournment.

Justice Jobarteh then granted the adjournment application filed by the State Counsel.

The witness arrived in the courtroom shortly after Justice Jobarteh adjourned the case to the 25th of January 2023.

The witness said he was late because of the traffic congestion.

Kumba Sinyan is charged with murder contrary to section 187 of Criminal Code Cap: 10:01 Revised Laws of the Gambia 2009.

Prosecutors alleged that the suspect on or about the 14th of September 2022 at The Friendship Hostel in Bakau, with malice aforethought, caused the death of one Lamarana Jallow by cutting his stomach with an object and thereby committed an offense punishable with death under section 188 of the Criminal Code Cap of the Laws of the Gambia 2009.
