The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security has set the official producer price for groundnuts at 38,000 dalasis per metric ton for the 2025–26 trading season, which will run from December 1 through March 31.
In a statement released this week, the ministry said the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation will hold exclusive rights to purchase and export groundnuts during the first three months of the season. The decision, approved by the Cabinet on Nov. 27, bars private businesses from buying or exporting the crop during that period unless specifically licensed by the agriculture minister.
Authorities, including security services, have been instructed to strictly enforce the restriction.
President Adama Barrow, in remarks issued alongside the announcement, extended well wishes to farmers as they prepare for the start of the season.
The government said it expects the pricing and regulatory measures to support a smooth trading cycle and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national food security.
