Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), has asserted that the National People’s Party (NPP) will secure victory in the 2026 presidential election “by force,” warning opposition parties that the upcoming contest will be far from easy.

Addressing a gathering attended by President Adama Barrow in the Upper River Region (URR), Fatty dismissed the motives of those opposing the president, accusing them of acting out of personal interest.

“Those against President Barrow are doing it for their own benefit—let us call them ‘Fankun Fankun Kafo,’” Fatty said, using a local phrase to describe individuals driven by selfish agendas.

He cautioned politicians contemplating defection to rival parties, saying they would face public embarrassment and disgrace. Fatty urged those seeking political progress to align themselves with the NPP-led alliance, declaring that the ruling party’s 2026 campaign would be relentless.

“If they are not tired, we are not tired,” Fatty declared. “Whatever it means for them, it means a hundred times more for us because we are the ones governing today. They want to unseat us—then they should prepare themselves, because it will not be easy, and they will lose.”
