Gambia Police Force Accepts Superintendent Kujabi’s Apology, Issues Stern Warning

By Makutu Manneh

The Gambia Police Force has accepted an apology from Superintendent of Police David Kujabi following remarks he made on social media that were deemed inconsistent with the standards expected of serving officers. While the apology was acknowledged, the Force warned that any recurrence would result in firm administrative action.

In a statement, the Police Command underscored the importance of discipline, professionalism, and adherence to institutional processes, stressing that officers must uphold the integrity of the force at all times.

“The Police Command wishes to make it abundantly clear that this matter serves as a serious reminder to all serving members of the Force. Discipline, professionalism, and respect for institutional processes remain the foundation of policing,” the statement read.

Superintendent Kujabi’s apology letter, which was made public and bore his name and signature, expressed regret over his online remarks.

“I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding caused by my recent social media posts. My intention was never to discredit the noble work of the Gambia Police Force but rather to share reflections and alternative perspectives, which, I believed, could enrich ongoing discussions on policing approaches in our context,” he wrote.

Kujabi reaffirmed his commitment to serving both the Force and the Gambian public, pledging to channel his knowledge, experience, and expertise through appropriate institutional frameworks, “with full respect to the institution’s hierarchy and ethics.”

The controversy follows an August 28, 2025, police statement that expressed concern over officers engaging in public commentary critical of police handling of protests earlier in the month.
