The civil society movement Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) has called on the National Assembly and the National Sports Council to respond to petitions it submitted on July 23, 2025.
In a statement issued this week, GALA reminded the two institutions of their responsibility to act on public concerns. “We wish to remind these two entities that, as public-serving institutions, they are duty-bound to address the concerns raised in our petitions,” the movement said.
The group emphasized that both the legislature and the sports council serve as voices of the Gambian people and must therefore respond to citizens’ calls for accountability.
GALA acknowledged receipt of a formal government response to its separate petition, which demanded swift action against corruption, the prosecution of officials implicated in scandals such as the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) tragedy, and the enforcement of parliamentary resolutions related to the $30 million petroleum inquiry. The movement stated that it is preparing a detailed response to the government’s response in the coming days.
“We would like to state unequivocally that GALA will never waver in its quest to hold public officials accountable. We remain committed to constructive dialogue where necessary,” the statement added.
The organization further reaffirmed its commitment to using all legal and democratic means available to advance its anti-corruption agenda, including peaceful protest if required.
