Chief Justice Orders Coroner’s Inquest Into Death of Omar Badjie

The Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow, has directed Magistrate Anna O. Mendy of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court to conduct a coroner’s inquest into the death of 27-year-old Omar Badjie of Mandinary, Kombo North, West Coast Region.

In a letter dated 3 October 2025, the Chief Justice issued the directive following an application from the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, in accordance with the Coroners Act.

Badjie died on 26 September 2025 after allegedly being beaten by a patrol team of the Gambia Police Force.
