The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has confirmed that Yahya G. Sowe, United Democratic Party’s nominated candidate for Chamen Ward, has withdrawn his candidature for the upcoming Local Government Elections.

“Yes is true he has withdrawn,” Mr. Pa Makan Khan, the Director of Training, Communications, and Public Affairs at the IEC told Kerr Fatou when we reach out to him for confirmation.

Yahya G. Sowe’s resignation came a week after the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) candidate for Njau Ward also withdraw his candidature. The Party (UDP) has yet to comment on both withdrawals, however, some party militants have accused the ruling National People’s Party of inducing their candidates with cash and kind to withdraw from the contest.
