Director of Finance NAWEC
Betty Marong was born in Banjul where she attended her primary school education and later attended Gambia Methodist Academy (GMA) as part of the first pioneer batch of students who attended the school in 1996.
Upon graduating Grade 12 in 2001, Betty left The Gambia for Norway to pursue higher education. She undertook professional training through a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Audit at the Oslo Metropolitan University (then called Oslo University College) between 2004 and 2007. She then joined KPMG as a Junior Audit Associate in 2007.
After 2 years of working with KPMG she was promoted to the position of Senior Audit Associate. That same year, Betty took a leave of absence to pursue a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Audit from 2009 to 2011. Upon completion of her Master’s Degree, Betty returned to KPMG and worked as Audit Senior Associate from 2011 to 2014.
In 2016, Betty left KPMG after 9 years of external audit to join another International company, SN Power AS as Group Financial Controller.
SN Power is a Norwegian renewable energy company that concentrates on acquiring, developing, constructing, and operating hydropower assets in emerging markets. The company is owned 100 % by the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund).
Betty left SN Power in October 2020 to join The Gambia’s National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) as Director of Finance.
