APRC leader breaks silence on ‘meeting’ with Pres. Barrow

Tombong Jatta said Seedy Njie, the party’s former spokesperson who is now replaced by Amul Nyassi, has resigned his position last week.

The leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction party, Fabakary Tombong Jatta, has confirmed on Thursday that they have had a meeting with President Adama Barrow last week.

Last week, rumour did the round on social media over an unannounced meeting between APRC and President Barrow though this was never communicated by the State House press office.

“This is not the first time we have met Barrow and we will go there again if need be… Mama Kandeh went to Barrow and nobody talked about it…,” Tombong said.

However, Kandeh’s meeting with Barrow was announced and published on the official Facebook page of the presidency but the APRC’s meeting with the new leader was never announced.

Tombong would not reveal the content of their meeting except that they were there to discuss issues of mutual interest.

“We went to meet President Barrow… we are a citizens and a political party. We will dialogue with anybody. Barrow is the leader of The Gambia and he has to serve everyone,” Jatta said.

“Barrow welcomed us and we were happy… but we know that we are APRC and Barrow is coalition.”

Tombong, who spoke with the former dictator Yahya Jammeh last week, said he has asked him to advise their militants “not to abuse the social media”.

“He said insults and character assassinations are bad. He said let us not do anything that will destabilize this country,” Jatta said.

But Tombong would not talk directly on whether Jammeh told Momodou Bah to lead the party or not. He said the former military general still holds his position as the deputy party leader.

Jatta also said Seedy Njie, the party’s former spokesperson who is now replaced by Amul Nyassi, has resigned.
